Satake Historical Material Museum

佐竹史料館

Located in Senshu Park, the former grounds of Kubota Castle in Akita, the Satake Historical Material Museum displays articles relating to the Satake, an offshot of the Seiwa Genji family.

Suits of armour, weapons, swords, old maps of Akita, and a variety of historical documents can be seen in the two-room museum.

Akita's castle is linked to the life of Satake Yoshinobu, who was on the losing side at the Battle of Sekigahara and was moved to what is now present-day Akita (Kubota domain) by the victorious Tokugawa Ieyasu.
