The rate of criminal recidivism in Japan in 2008 was 41.5%. That is the highest rate since 1968, and is blamed mainly on the recession

According to an Asahi Shinbun poll, 74% of respondents agreed with the statement "Child rearing responsibilities should be shared 50-50 between wife and husband."

Among those from age 20 - 50, the rate was around 80%.
